Whenever you add a person in Chronicle, Chronicle asks for the category that person falls into, for example, whether the person is a customer, a prospect, an employee, an insurance adjustor, a personal contact, and so on. Working with people categories lets you find specific kinds of people easily. (Notes that there are no subcategories for subcontractor or vendors. If you want to be able to look up all electricians or all plumbers you will need to add subcategories for these.)
Chronicle comes set up with these categories:
Category |
Sub Categories |
Notes |
Adjuster |
Adjuster Claims Manager |
These people are typically associated with the insurance company’s main office. |
Agency Contact |
Agent Assistant/Receptionist |
Agents are part of a local agency. |
Associate |
Associate |
We use Associate as a catch-all for any organization that we don’t know quite how to categorize. |
Customer (default setting can not delete) |
Customer |
A person must be marked as a customer to add a job. If you initially enter a person with some other category, for example, if you enter the person as a Prospect, you can change the category to Customer later. |
Employee |
Administration Employee Production |
Categorizing someone as an Employee lets you enter pay rates and other HR information, and lets you generate labor reports, etc. |
Personal |
Business Associate Family Friend |
Only you can see people and organizations that you categorize as Personal; others can’t view your personal contacts. If needed, you can add additional personal subcategories. For example, you might want additional personal subcategories for baby-sitters, for contacts related to volunteer work that you do, and so on. |
Property Manager |

Prospect |
Prospect |
Prospects are potential customers. You should change them to customer if a job materializes. |
Subcontractor |
Subcontractor |
People normally use subcategories to categorize the corresponding organizations, so you don’t generally need subcategories for people as Subcontractors and Vendors. To find particular types of Vendors, use Organizations to search for a particular subcategory. For Subcontractors, Chronicle’s skill manager is a better way to track which people provide which services because there you aren’t limited to a single subcategory; you can enter as many skills for each person as needed |
