Marketing efforts vary widely from one business to another and from one part of the country to another. Because of this, we haven’t included subcategories for most of these work sources. To track work sources more closely for any category (for example, in larger metropolitan areas, you might track which newspaper or which yellow page book the customer found you in), add additional sources or subsources as needed.
To define the types of marketing expenses that you care about go to the Main System Setup to the Categories tab. You will most likely not use Chronicle to track all of your marketing expenses such as fuel, use of vehicle, and handing out of promotional pens, etc., but you will want to keep track of items spent directly for a specific person or office.
Typical Marketing Categories are:
- Entertainment
- Performance Tickets
- Sports Tickets
- Free/Discounted Services
- Coupon
- Discounts
- Gifts
- Candy
- Flowers
- Meals
- Promotional Materials (larger cost items such as tee-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. Not commonly used for pens, etc)
